Section: METRO CHICAGO Parts: 4 Copyright Chicago Tribune FINAL APPEALS DENIED, DELVECCHIO DIES BY INJECTION FOR '77 MURDER Convicted murderer George DelVecchio became the fifth inmate in Illinois to be put to death this year after he died by lethal injection early Wednesday for the 1977 killing of a 6-year-old Northwest Side boy. DelVecchio, 47, was pronounced dead at 12:30 a.m. When asked if he wanted to say any last word, witnesses at the Stateville Correctional Center near Joliet heard him mumble several words and say the name of God. DelVecchio was convicted of killing Tony Canzoneri during a home invasion and robbery of the boy's home.
